#158328 Hi There!

I like the newest pokemon that has been released for OR/AS, Hoopa. I decided I wanted to make my first Poke-model using it since it's pretty simple. But I better clear some things up...

This is not a submission for a model! I know someone will point that out. This is my artwork in its own right. I know that gen 6 Pokemon will not be added anyway, I am doing this merely for feedback on on my modelling skills and what I can improve on!

Here is the model:

(Never posted a sketchfab model before, no idea if this worked)

Here is my list of things I know is wrong with the model:

Inaccuracies - Hoopa only just came out, I was working off of unofficial art for the most part. They weren't always perfect... For example, I had about 5 designs for hands, so i just left them as spheres for now.

Smoothness - Dem horns doe. (Seriously though, they were hard to get smooth without looking goofy, besides, Hoopa's horns aren't flush either.)

I also wanna say that I know how much people like their single mesh models, I know the pain, trust me. I made sure this was all connected as 1 piece so no one make that point okay?

I think that covers it, can't wait to hear your feedback!
(P.S - I hope this is the right place to post this!)

#158332 I can give my amateur opinion if you like. :P

That's just based off what I can see. You should also only use official artwork afaik.

Horn | Show
Doesn't match up
Image

Horn Ring | Show
Larger than the horn, dangles on it.
Image

Arm | Show
Image
To me in the official art it resembles an ice cream cone shape and the ring around the hand imo looks like a handguard

Hair? | Show
Image
Official art resembles a knights fleece I think it's called.

Tail | Show
Image
Should be larger imo.

Other than that, in my own personal perspective I'd say the body would be more slim and the ring around the lower part of the body would be bigger, like a tutu.

#158336 Hi skywardstrike28,

I admire this as a first try, especially the precision to detail! With this said, I would humbly like to critique your model. The first thing I noticed when taking a look at your model's wireframe is the excessive amount of unneeded polygons.

Dealing with sphere primitives, especially like you're doing now, is VERY dangerous. You a lot of times are left with unnecessary triangles at the top and bottoms of the sphere. You can counter this by using "quad-spheres".
I created this demonstration of a quad-sphere and uploaded it to Sketchfab. I created three quad-spheres showing the polycount of each as well as the way the lighting is affected on each polygon. Looking at the wireframe, you should see where the original square primitive was used to create the Quad-sphere. :)

Here's an example of a Weavile I modeled last year but never did anything with it, I believe I used a quad-sphere for it's head as well as a few other parts of it's body.

The second thing I noticed after looking at your model was it's polycount, always try to have a polycount goal in mind and shoot for it. 9000+ triangles is quite excessive, especially for a few spheres that make up Hoopa. ;)

Here is my version of Hoopa that I modeled.

#158362 Seriously, thanks for the advice guys!

As I said, I'm still new to creating models, hence the polycount being so high. Also, as I said I was working 100% off of fan art for it, since it was not released until very recently. I'm reworking the model to include these fixes now
I really do appreciate he help guys! This is something I really want to improve on!

UPDATE: I've reduced the polygons by about half already, I made the horn rings larger, the body slimmer, fixed the crest on its head, and a host of other minor changes. There are a few things I'm having trouble with though if anyone is able to help me out.

Horns As hard as I try I cannot make them flush with the head, It's driving me insane! No matter what I do they won't connect correctly! I managed to get it close but not quite, which when thinking about it isn't so bad since this is a personal model and not one that's going into pixelmon or anything.

HandsI'm no good at somewhat complicated shapes like these, I'm leaving them for last.

There's one other thing I need help with - since it's all 1 single mesh How am I going to texture it?

#158369 I personally wasn't being critical at all. :)

Enjoy modeling as an art-form man, and private message me any time you want some critiques. :)
