I'm aware that the voice-acted cries by the team in the style of the anime are to avoid copyright, but I feel as if this somewhat alienates non-english players as not everyone grew up with the english pokemon names.
As you know, pokemon names are localised in different languages. For example, Mudkip is known as Mizugorou in Japanese, Gobou in French, and Hydropi in German. Having the Mudkip in Pixelmon always repeating its english name could be polarising or annoying for people who grew up knowing it by a different name.
I think in order to make Pixelmon more international-friendly, you could take several other approaches to the cries. As examples, you could voice-act sound effects instead of names, or even use software to generate some game-styled cries. Both of these optionals would be more universal of language and feel more inclusive to non-english speakers.
