#176689 I've remade the Flying gym with the same gym puzzle but completely redesigned with the suggestions made by MrMasochism:

The concept remains the same- the gym itself is flying but now there is a clear gym building with the badge clearly displayed at the front- with the platforms and gym trainers scattered on them tied to separate, individual air balloons. The Gym entrance includes two statues and a Guide like in the classic gyms. With little happening on the floor I've added a hail bay cart and scattered piles to make the more difficult jumps less punishing.

I will try to make a skin for this particular NPC shortly without copying it from anywhere since I know all work must be original.


There is a guide in the gym with the following dialogue to give the gym, it's trainers and leader some background. He is present in the saved world but his text is as follows:
Page1: Yo! Champ in making!
Page2: If you're looking for the flying gym you've found it- literally! This gym is flying!
Page3: The leader is a legendary fighter pilot! The tales say he used to do Pokemon battles on the wings of his plane- mid flight!
Page4: Don't let the hot air balloons fool you- those are for his grandkids! He was a fierce pilot and now he is a fierce opponent.

Hey- I've been working on this on my lunch breaks the last few days- it's not really done (I still haven't seen it in 1.9 with the beta pixelmon, etc) but I wanted initial impressions and I can hopefully put together gym leaders for it tomorrow. I also wanted to get it in before it was too late (if it isn't already)

It's a flying gym suspended in the air by 4 giant hot air balloons as well as several "hover platforms" to stabilize it and without the assistance of a flying pokemon, a trainer would need to leap from platform to platform in order to challenge the gym leader. In true Pokemon gym style, there would be a quick way back to the gym's entrance upon completion of the gym.

#176720 If that is general concensus I can change it.

The main body started as an airship- but the space made me change it to more of a coliseum design- then the platforms kind of made it just decoration so I went with the glass to give it more of an aerial feel without causing players to take PUNISHING damage for falling.

If it is general consensus that this is an eyesore I can revamp- I think the air balloons and platforms would probably work with a different main body for the gym if that's how people feel.

#176732 I was originally crafting it with the idea that it could really spawn anywhere since it was entirely flying- an actual Flying Gym- which is why the floor is more or less barren and even the entrance to the gym doesn't touch the ground. It could be above desert, tundra, even an ocean and still work but I also don't know how structure spawn algorithms work and could be totally wrong.

#176746 The idea is ok but the execution hasn't really worked. It's not very obvious what it is from the outside. I feel you'd probably be better off making multiple smaller balloons with the bottom one tethered to the ground and maybe making the balloon platforms out of wood as that is more expected

#176987 Thanks for the feedback- I am actively rebuilding the concept with the suggestions made here and will hopefully update this post within the next day.

Should we be spawning in NPCs? And is there a "Yo, Champ in making" npc already created?

Also a lot of people in this forum posts ".snapshot" files- how does one make a minecraft snapshot versus just zipping a world?
