I haven't tried wiith other pokemon that get different abillities as they evolve yet however Magikarps are supposed to have Swift Swim while Gyarados is supposed to have Intimidate(Or Moxie if lucky) when it evolves. There's no such thing as a Gyarados with Swift Swim. If you pokespawn a Gyarados it'll have intimidate but evolving a magikarp doesn't produce the same results.

Bump anyone have any more info on this? Is it possible to get Moxie on gyarados without spawning one in

Try logging out and in and see if this is just a graphical bug.
