I have forge installed for 1.7.2 and the pixelmon .jar in the mods folder yet minecraft does not recognize the mod file and runs basically as a vanilla game. Is there something I'm missing?

do you still have like the pixelmon side bar but nothing spawns and non of the pixelmon stuff works?

It acts as if there is nothing is in the mods folder. If I click on mods on the main menu, pixelmon is not there.

Hello!
Make sure on the "PLAY" screen when booting minecraft, that in the bottom left corner where it states 'Profile' that you have Forge172 selected.
If you dont, click new profile and in the middle of that pop up screen scroll down to select your forge 1.7.2 version > save > press play.
