[center]What Are IV's[/center]
Individual values, IV's for short, sometimes also known as determinant values, DV's for short, are the pokemon equivalent of genes. They are instrumental in determining the stats of a pokemon, being responsible for the large variation in stats among untrained pokemon of the same species.
[center]Overview[/center]
IV's can not be changed, each stat for each pokemon has its own IV. What does the IV do? IV's are basically a number within a range from 0-31, it basically determines the pokemons stat without any training. Each stat has a range determined by its base stat, so you can know where that stat is on the range, you need the IV number, if the IV number is 31, then that stat will be on top of that range. When the IV is 0, then that stat will be on the bottom of that range.
For Example: A stats range is between 120-150. If the IV was 31 then the stat would be 150, if the IV was 0 then the stat would be 120
Basically IV's determine the strength of a pokemon without any training.

HP Equation:
HP = ({[IV + 2Base + (EV / 4) + 100] x Level}/100)+ 10
Other Stats Equation:
Other Stat = [{[IV + 2Base + (EV / 4)] x Level}/100 +5] x Nature*
* Nature can only be 0.9, 1.0 or 1.1 (Explained in the natures Guide)

The way a pokemons gender is determined is by its IV's. I won't explain the exact way because it is a bit confusing, a person needs to learn binary numbers to do so. A pokemons gender is determined by it's Attack IV, if the pokemons attack IV is higher than the gender code associated with the pokemons species then the pokemon is a male, and if the attack IV is lower than that number, it's a female.
