But isn't the "box your starter" rule just additional? I'm gonna go with the ID number: 1-3 is fire etc

i believe its where you must have 3 males and 3 females at all times on your team.. and obviously they are paired up in a marriage kinda deal.

It is like that, and also, you can't change them, unless one dies.
In battle, only the first "pair"\couple can fight, until they're both dead.

I was so mad when I had to catch a Rattata as my first pokemon. :/
