With the update from 1.12.2 to 1.16.5 covering 4 major MC releases including some of the biggest internal changes the game has seen, several mechanics require a full or partial rewrite to be usable on the newer version. From what I've heard, that includes both old riding systems - so to not be stuck without mounting at all currently, this temporary mechanic based on Vanilla horse riding was added for the time being.

is there any update on improving the flying mechanic? could you maybe borrow code from mods that use a jetpack mechanic, or maybe even just the creative mode flight?
some mods that could be used for a better fly that I can think of include (looking at 1.20.1, but the mods, or at least most of them, are probably also in 1.16.5 or have equivalents) :
creative type flight: "draconic evolution" by Brandon3055, "mekanism" by bradiadanc and some others
sort of elytra type flight with some differences: "dragon survival [forge]" by BlackAuresArt, "icarus" by Camie and UpcraftLP
vehicle type flight: "simple planes [forge]" by przemykomo
1.16.5 or 1.20.1 are the versions I'm most interested in for that. it's just that the fly horse jump version is really awkward and you can't go higher up when you are already in the air.
also I would appreciate if pixelmon could be configured in the mod menu rather than having to go into the files to edit the config.
speaking of config, I can't seem to get vanilla mobs to spawn (at least for the 1.20.1 version I am doing testing on as I type this).
