Editing guidelines

From Pixelmon Wiki

These are some guidelines that should be followed while editing the wiki:

Format

  • Use proper grammar. Be sure to:
    • End sentences with periods.
    • Avoid sentence fragments except in image captions.
    • Know the difference between "it's" and "its".
  • Spell words correctly. Make sure to:
    • Capitalize all Pokémon names.
    • Avoid adding suffixes to Pokémon if referred to in plural. For example, "several Pidgey" and not "several Pidgeys".
    • Spell the word "Pokémon" with a capital 'P' and an accented 'é'. On Windows, 'é' is the alt code 130, and on a Mac, hold the option key while pressing 'e' and then press 'e' again. Alternatively, you may copy and paste the character.
    • Spell these Pokémon by including their non-alphanumeric symbols: Nidoran♂, Nidoran♀, Farfetch'd, Mr. Mime, Porygon-Z. If you are unsure how to type gender symbols, just copy and paste the characters.
    • Besides the aforementioned Pokémon, other names can be referred to by either their Pixelmon spelling or the Pokémon games' spelling. For example, you may use either "Poisonpowder" or "Poison Powder".
    • Keep in mind that there may be different spellings for certain words based on British or American English. Either "Aluminium" or "Aluminum" is acceptable.
  • Avoid using first-person ("I") or second-person pronouns ("you") or imperative sentences.
  • Do not use subjective opinions with no evidence. Opinions may be used in guides, but they must be backed by factual evidence.
  • Do not show emotions, including the use of exclamation points, excessive capitalization, or emoticons.
  • Do not use slang.
  • Do not use expletives or other offensive language.

Integrity

  • Do not vandalize pages or create nonsensical pages. If your edit is clearly with malicious intent, you will be banned from editing the wiki.
  • Do not spread lies and false information.
  • Do not put speculation for future updates on the wiki.
    • If information about future updates has been confirmed by Pixelmon staff, it may be included in minor references on pages if it is clearly stated that this information is in a future update and not the current one. Do not make entirely new pages on future content until the update has been released.
    • Just because a model has been approved doesn't mean that it will immediately be in the next update.
    • Pixelmon staff are exempt from this rule and may spoil certain information if they desire. This is not grounds to ask them what will be in the next update.

Images

  • If possible, press F1 before taking screenshots to hide the interface.
  • Avoid showing a texture pack other than the vanilla Minecraft one.
  • Avoid showing content from other mods in screenshots, including Pixelmon side mods. The exception to this is a shaders mod.
  • Avoid showing players' or servers' names in screenshots.

Solicitation

  • Do not advertise servers. Doing so may get you banned from editing.
  • Do not reference other players or other mods, including Pixelmon side mods.
  • Do not suggest features on the wiki. Use the Suggest a Feature forum for this.
    • Do not ask for Pokémon to be added. They will all be implemented eventually.
    • Do not ask for anything from Generation 6 to be added. Potential copyright issues mean that this will only occur once Generation 7 is released.

Other

  • Pixelmon is based off of the game mechanics of the Generation 5 Pokémon games (Black/White/Black 2/White 2). There are differences between Generation 5 and the current Generation 6 (Pokémon X and Y), such as:
    • Slightly different movepools (level-up or TM) on Pokémon.
    • Certain moves that don't exist.
    • Other minor differences (Knock Off, Defog, Thunderbolt).
    • No Fairy type, and subsequently no retypings on Pokémon such as Clefairy and Mr. Mime.
    • No Mega Evolutions.
  • Note that Pixelmon does not have everything that is in the Pokémon games yet. Avoid referencing aspects of the Pokémon games that are not in Pixelmon, unless clarifying a potentially confusing subject. For example, it is okay to state that Steelix is not implemented on Onix's page.
  • Preview the page before saving the edit to make sure that the page looks like how you intended it to look.
  • If you want to test something, like code for a table or trying out a template, use the edit preview or try it on your own user page before putting it in an actual article.
  • Do not ask questions or leave unconstructive comments directly on articles. If you have a question, use the Pixelmon forums or the articles' talk pages. If there is an undocumented bug related to the topic, state it in the "Bugs" section of the article (or make one if there isn't one) and also post it on Pixelmon's Jira.
    • "Minecraft crashes upon startup" is not a bug. Consult the Support forum for help with this.
