Holding an Old Rod.
The Old Rod is the most basic rod in-game and the only one available legitimately. It is crafted like a vanilla fishing rod, but with a Poké Ball at the end: 3 Sticks diagonal to the right, 1 string below the last stick, and, below the string, 1 Poké ball.
An Old Rod is able to catch common Water-type Pokémon with it; it is used in a similar way as a Minecraft fishing rod. However, when a Pokémon is hooked, a "!" will appear in the chatbox rather than the bob being pulled down.
