An iron base is created by placing an iron disc on an anvil (by using it on the anvil when holding a disc), then hitting the anvil with a hammer. Eventually, the disc will turn into an iron base, which can be re-obtained either by continuing to hammer the base or by using the anvil. Iron bases are functionally equivalent to aluminum bases and can be used to make almost every type of Poké Ball.
