A Sun Stone shard can be obtained by mining Sun Stone ore or with Forage. However, as Sun Stone ore does not spawn naturally, Forage is the only legitimate way to obtained Sun Stone shards.
Nine Sun Stone shards can be crafted into a Sun Stone.
