An Exp. Share is a held item used to distribute experience to another Pokémon when equipped without the Pokémon needing to be used in battle. If no holders of Exp. Shares participate in a battle, earned experience will be shared equally between all holders of Exp. Shares and all battle participants. If the holder does participate in battle, the holder will gain 1.5× the equal split while any other Pokémon that participated will only gain 0.5× the equal experience split. Any holder of an Exp. Share will also gain the full amount of EVs from the defeated Pokémon. However, the holder will not gain any experience or EVs if it is fainted.
An Exp. Share does not boost the total experience gained from defeating a Pokémon; experience is only split.
Exp. Shares can be gained by defeating boss Pokémon or looting PokéLoot chests.
