Grid Shiny Charm.png

Shiny Pokémon are Pokémon that have an unnatural coloration. The coloration can be mild, only a few shades darker or lighter than the original, or drastic. They are not to be confused with Boss Pokémon, which are tinted differently than Shiny Pokémon and cannot be caught. Each Pokémon has a very rare (1/4,096 by default) chance of being Shiny, and Shiny Pokémon are much sought after for their unique look and rarity.

A Shiny coloration gives no advantage in battle, with the effect being purely cosmetic. A Shiny Pokémon will emit particles and have a star under its level while in battle with a trainer. Shinies will have a golden name tag as well. Wild Shiny Pokémon will not engage in battle with other wild Pokémon.

If two breeding Pokémon have differing original Trainers, their Eggs have six the normal chance of hatching into Shiny Pokémon. A way to increase shinies appearing in the wild is to use a Weak Shiny Lure for a 1.22x shiny multiplier, or a Strong Shiny Lure for a 1.73x shiny multiplier. The rate of a specific wild Pokémon species being shiny can also be increased by creating Catch Combos, increasing the rate by up to 2.2 times. Finally, you can also increase the chance of Shiny Pokemon appearing by using a Shiny Charm, increasing the base chance of them appearing from 1/4,096 to 3/4,096, roughly around 1/1,365. The boost from a Shiny Charm stacks with the boosts for both breeding and wild spawns of Pokémon.

It is possible to spawn a Shiny Pokémon by using the /pokespawn Pokémon s command, e.g. /pokespawn Pikachu s.

Below is a chart listing all encounter types and whether or not they are affected by different shiny rate multipliers:

  • *Starters are set to 1/4096 in the starter.json file. This can be altered with a datapack.
  • **Raids use their own shiny rates based on the number of stars for the raid. This can be edited in the raids.yml file.

Config settings

  • "Shiny spawn rate": The rarity of Shiny Pokémon spawning in the wild (1/x).

Trivia

  • High tier bosses (Legendary and Ultimate tiers) are always shiny. However, this distinction is inconsequential as boss Pokémon cannot be captured. Low tier bosses (Common through Epic) are programmed to never be shiny as well as any special palette.
