Boss Pokémon (more commonly known as bosses) are rare types of Pokémon, usually tougher and larger than normal Pokémon. They are also tinted in one of four different colors: green, blue, red, and yellow. This alternate coloration is not to be confused with Shiny Pokémon. The text that shows above them lacks a level and is also colored. This text can be seen from farther away than that of normal Pokémon. They cannot be captured.

Bosses scale to 5/10/20/40 levels above the highest level Pokémon in a player's party, depending on colour (green/blue/red/yellow). For example, a boss Pokémon fought with level 80 Pokémon will be level 90, while the same boss Pokémon fought with level 85 Pokémon will be level 95. The rarity of boss Pokémon scales according to their difficulty, with harder boss Pokémon being rarer.

The moveset of a wild boss Pokémon may change with each battle; however, growth, nature, and IVs will not.

Boss Pokémon can be spawned with the command "/pokespawn Pokémon boss#" (e.g., /pokespawn lapras boss4 for a yellow boss Lapras).

Drops

Boss Pokémon are usually sought after because of their rare drops. They are one of two sources of held items, TMs, Master Balls, and Medicine. The only other method of obtaining these items is looting them from PokéLoot chests. If the player's inventory is full when receiving drops from a boss Pokémon, the excess items will be dropped on the ground. To gain drops from a boss Pokémon, the player's Pokémon must defeat it through direct damage. If the boss is knocked out by other methods, including self-inflicted damage like Double-Edge or Explosion, statuses such as burn or poison, weather such as Sandstorm, or environmental sources such as lava, no loot will be dropped.

The following are all of the possible drops from boss Pokémon:

Boss Pokémon drop a certain number of items chosen from list above according to their difficulty:

  • Green: 1-3
  • Blue: 2-4
  • Red: 3-5
  • Yellow: 5-7

Config settings

  • "Gem Boss Drops"-Enabling this allows boss Pokémon to drop gems (excluding Fairy Gems).

Trivia

  • It is possible for a Pokémon to be both a boss Pokémon and a Shiny Pokémon. This is typically only feasible through the /pokespawn command; it is extremely rare for this to happen naturally. However, this distinction is inconsequential as boss Pokémon cannot be captured.

Bugs

  • The only held items that bosses drop are Gems, regardless of whether or not this aspect is disabled in the config.
