Special drops are items that can be obtained from boss Pokémon, PokéLoot chests, or Pickup. They primarily consist of different types of Poké Balls, Medicine, held items, and TMs. Special drops are split into three tiers of increasing rarity and item quality. Within each tier, items are randomly chosen with uniform probability to be obtained.

Obtaining special drops

Boss Pokémon

Boss Pokémon special drops when defeated. The number of drops from each tier depends on the difficulty of the boss Pokémon.

Color Number of items
Tier 1 Tier 2 Tier 3 Total
Green 2 0 0 2
Blue 2 1 0 3
Red 2 2 1 5
Yellow 3 2 2 7

PokéLoot chests

Different types of PokéLoot chests contain special drops from different tiers.

Type % Chance
Tier 1 Tier 2 Tier 3
Grid Poké Chest.pngPoké Chest 100% 0% 0%
Grid Ultra Chest.pngUltra Chest 0% 100% 0%
Grid Master Chest.pngMaster Chest 0% 0% 100%
Hidden Chest 51% 34% 15%

Pickup

A Pokémon with Pickup has a 10% to place a special drop into the player's inventory at the end of a battle if the Pokémon does not have a held item. The distribution of tiers of special drop loot depends on the level of the Pokémon with Pickup.

Level % Chance
Tier 1 Tier 2 Tier 3
1-50 100% 0% 0%
51-80 90% 10% 0%
81+ 79% 20% 1%

Customization

Special drops can be customized by enabling the "useExternalJSONFiles" config setting. After doing this, a "drops.json" file with be created in the "pixelmon/drops" folder in the main Minecraft directory.

Once the drops.json file is opened, special drops can be changed by adding or removing item IDs in each of the three special drop tier lists.
